Our standards for supporting students:

All scholarship recipients must maintain an acceptable level of academic excellence in order to retain their scholarships. Our philosophy and standards were influenced by the principals described in the book “When Helping Hurts” by Steve Corbett and Brain Fikkert.

Students who do not meet academic standards in one semester are placed on academic probation. Students who do not meet academic standards for two semesters in a row lose their scholarships.

KOI makes tutoring services available to students who are struggling academically, but have demonstrated a desire to improve their grades and wish to retain their scholarships.

We believe that with your help we can make a difference and break the cycle of poverty in the Meru Kenya area. But, we also are mindful that we not replace a cycle of poverty with a cycle of dependence.
